Fancy: What makes Jarvis, Jarvis?

Jarvis: What makes me who I am, is that I’m a unique individual who never followed the crowd. I’m someone who knew and never was confused in what I believed in. Jarvis believes in himself 100%, and if the task is too great, I am the type of person who will find away to go through it and not around it.

Fancy: Tell us more about your latest venture.

Jarvis: My latest venture is Oceans 97, Inc., a wholesale/retail seafood company that started in February of 2015. I have been in the shrimp business since 2012 and made a lot of gains by learning the business from the ground up. Oceans 97 started with a $100 deposit, shrimp, and only one sauce, and now we are on QVC, in retail stores, have five sauces, and this is only the beginning. Life after sports for many athletes is a huge transition, and for me is was one too, but I am truly excited about where this venture will take me in the food and hospitality industry. Every day is an exciting learning experience that brings unlimited opportunities, and as a natural foodie myself, of course I enjoy the continuous discovery of new restaurants, wines, and recipes along the way.

Fancy: Why did you decide to make your upcoming announcement during STYLEWEEK Northeast?

Jarvis: As we understand this time period in the marketplace, consumers are more excited to enjoy and see new products/brands during events that come with an experience. I wanted to make the announcement (during this time), because I think it falls into the next chapter of who the buyers are of this century; which are the millennials. Hence, I felt like this would be both good timing and a great event to be introducing them to innovation alongside great food as well. So I am blessed to be apart of a great kick-off event close to the stadium where my career was established on-the-field. Also, I think it will now be exciting for people to get to engage with me off-the-field, and in the community even more.

Fancy: How are things going with Oceans 97?

Jarvis: Progress is always forward-moving with Oceans 97 and we’re excited about the retail stores we’re going into in 2018 such as: Stop and Shop and Walmart. Additionally, as an entrepreneur who is also a father, I want to continue to be a great role model for my three kids, especially for my two daughters, to see that you can break barriers and not have to be limited to one thing in your life. I want them as women to know they can do anything they put their minds to, and hopefully by them seeing my example of how I crossed-over successfully from sports to being a businessman, they’ll see that they too can do anything and do it successfully.  Stay connected to me through social media and of course I love to hear your recipe ideas and creations with shrimp. The Kick Off event is invite only.

Green, who divides his time between Providence, Rhode Island and Baton Rouge, Louisiana, embarked on his career in the shrimp industry following a nine-year NFL career, during which he was a part of the New England Patriots Super Bowl XXXVIII and XXXIX winning teams.

In addition to Oceans 97, Green also runs the Jarvis Green Foundation, which he launched in 2006. The foundation, which has numerous partners in New England, focuses on children and teaching them how to have an overall healthy lifestyle, including what they eat, as well as providing resources to single mothers who have been affected by natural disasters.
