Wednesday Wonder Woman: Shanta Judge (2)

Shanta Judge, the owner of FabWraps, is a native of Jacksonville, NC. She moved from Jacksonville to Charlotte in 1999 and attended American Business and Fashion Institute. With a major in Fashion Merchandising, it was at AB&F, she had the opportunity to explore her unique passion for gorgeous fabric combined with her love for various styles, which has been translated through this vibrant line, FabWraps. FabWraps’s mission is to build confidence and provide a vehicle for expression through fashion. Learn more about Shanta and FabWraps below.

Fancy: How would you describe your swagher? What makes Shanta, Shanta?

Shanta: Fashion is an extension of my personality. I love fashion and have no desire to follow the crowd, that’s what makes me completely inimitable. I’ve learned to embrace the gazes of curiosity. I am proud of my culture and feel a sense of pride by representing my culture through my accessory line. I have a good eye for materials, such as color and fabric. I can create whatever I want, because I hold the power to make my own fashion statement.

Fancy: What inspired you to start FabWraps?

Shanta: The desire to have financial freedom is what inspired me. Ambition and eagerness allowed me to see the opportunity to build a brand. I found a way to turn my passion into wanting to work for myself. 18 years ago, I moved to Charlotte, NC to attend the Art Institute of Charlotte. Originally, I wanted to own a boutique, but as I continued to revise my business plan, I knew I didn’t want much overhead. Therefore, FabWraps was created as an online store. I want to be a part of the rebuild Black Wall Street Movement and create wealth for my children and community.

Fancy: What was the response like when you initially began creating FabWraps?

Shanta: I spoke to the Universe for this opportunity and it’s happening. My family and friends offered much support throughout the building stages of FabWraps.  The initial response was to BUILD WEALTH. I allowed my children to be part of the business from day one. My son, Jalen came up with the name. My daughter, Deja models the head wraps. Allowing my children to assist with the business, teaches them to learn the value of work and both continue to assist with business ideas.

Fancy: Did you try any other fashion ventures before deciding to focus on the wraps?

Shanta: During the beginning planning stages of FabWraps, I did try the Ankara print skirts first. I realized my attention was directed to the crown and for this reason, the focus became head wraps.

Fancy: Are there any healthy hair benefits to wearing your wraps?

Shanta: We must protect our crown at all times and keep hair healthy. Your crown is associated with divine wisdom, and Oneness with the Universe. You definitely do not want the head wrap to put stress on your edges. Eat healthy and maintain healthy hair, and your head will be fine under a head wrap. (1)

Fancy: What do you enjoy most about your business?

Shanta: I am in control of my destiny and genuinely love what I do. The passion of doing what you love can be difficult to identify. I’m excited about the growth of FabWraps, but I’m more excited about the relationships that I am building with my vendors and other entrepreneurs. I currently have two seamstresses, who are sisters. They’re both from Nigeria, and just as passionate and dedicated about FabWraps as I am.

Fancy: What other products do have besides the wraps?

Shanta: All products are of Ankara print. Ankara is 100% cotton fabric. Some refer to Ankara as wax prints, Holland wax, or Dutch wax. FabWraps is an accessory line, which consists of head wraps, bracelets, bow ties, handbags, clutches, chokers, and weekend duffle bags. Products consist of free shipping, all under $50. In 2018, we will be adding some new products that we are excited about.

Fancy: With the seasons changing, do you have any fashion suggestions to pair along with your wraps?

Shanta: Head wraps are a visual art and complete the outfit. Head wraps can be worn with anything, from jeans and a blazer to a sheath dress. Have fun with the vibrant colors of the prints, you can even pair two different prints together. Be bold, create different wrap styles.
