While riots and rallies covered the news last weekend, one teenager in McComb, MS was being presented with a huge opportunity. 17-year old Takedra Wagner is now the official makeup artist of American Idol’s star La’Porsha Renea.

Wagner first met La’Porsha over a year ago when the choir of the school she attends, Jubilee Performing Arts Center (JPAC), sang back up for the singer during one of her performances in McComb. While talking with the youth after the show, Kedra, as her family calls her, asked if La’Porsha had only one makeup artist or several. When La’Porsha replied that she likes to have several, because it gives others the opportunity to display their talents, Dr. Alexander, the founder of JPAC School, took to the opportunity to share that Kedra is an aspiring makeup artist.

Wagner began learning about makeup and techniques at an early age while visiting the salon with her mother. By the time she was 15 or 16, she was doing make up for others. People would just be like, “Oh, I love your makeup! Can you do mine?” Kedra shared.

During our interview Takedra’s mother, Cori Wagner laughed recalling how Kedra had begun to think La’Porsha had forgotten about her. “I told her don’t worry about it, ‘when it’s your time, it’s your time, just be patient.’” Wagner says, “And she did.”

Late last month, the roof of the JPAC School collapsed, requiring the students to be moved to another building and raise funds. These events led to Kedra and La’Porsha crossing paths again when the administration asked La’Porsha to perform during their JPAC Unity Concert. One thing she asked was where was “her baby that does makeup?”

So the JPAC junior was the lucky person to beat La’Porsha’s face that evening, but the blessing didn’t stop there. The soul and R&B singer again invited Wagner to travel with her as her official MUA as La’Porsha tours with Charlie Wilson and Anthony Hamilton.

When what her plans were after graduation, Kedra replied, “After school I would like to work for a huge corporation like MAC Cosmetics, Sephora, Revlon,  etc and I would major in business and management, because I would like to own my own business one day, and do like makeup, hair, and take pictures, something like image consulting. “

Wagner was also recently selected as a Barbazon USA model.

Another little twist to this story is before LaPorsha left McComb and was the second runner up on American Idol season 15, she worked at Wal-Mart under Kedra’s mother, Cori, but the mom says La’Porsha did not know Kedra was her daughter when she made her decision.
