Imagine you woke up today to an email in your inbox with the subject matter as “Fake obituary with YO pic”. Would you open the email or ignore it and begin your day? Well Giants star James Bland shared on Twitter that he opened his email and discovered that someone had allegedly used his picture on a fake obituary to miss work.
The young actor and filmmaker said the young lady in the email went on to say that her coworker claimed that his “brother”, Edward Grace, died in a car accident last week Thursday.” She also attached the obituary with Bland’s photo on the first page of the booklet, which she said the coworker sent to her (the sender) sister and managers to explain his absence.
Bland then shared a GIF of Ms. Cicely Tyson with a caption saying “Ya’ll they really got me out here on a damn obituary. (coffin emoji)”. We love his good humor.
But wait, apparently, someone told Bland that the “coworker” in the story was really a pastor, and it was his wife who had actually called the job in his absence. Bland had not mentioned a call prior to, but seemed a little disappointed at the thought of a pastor and his wife behaving in such a way, to which he then tweeted, “Basically, somebody Pastor and First Lady out here living foul! Lying for some paid leave. I’m done,” along with a GIF of a church member passing out in the spirit.
Only he wasn’t quite done. Bland then read the obituary which describes him or Eddie as the deceased fictional character was nicknamed, as a loving, hardworking father and family man, who had attended Morris Brown College. This particularly struck Bland almost as blasphemy being that he is FAMU alum.
Two days later, Bland announced that he received an email from Raekwon (we assume of the Wu-Tang Clan) who is also the media director of the church of the pastor in the story. The fake obituary was an assignment for a theology and divinity class that the pastor is currently enrolled in,”Bland shared along with a GIF of Oprah in deep thought. The following dismissed a rumor of the pastor getting fired from his job and cheating on his wife (not sure where that part came from, but ok).
Nevertheless, we enjoyed Bland’s humor as he shared this awkward but humorous story and how it played out with his following. I have not watched giants yet, but will definitely be checking it out. I did love “Get Your Life” with Amanda Seales and Bland’s character. Be sure to follow James at @jrbland.
