Black Girl Magic: Let’s Give These Sisters a Hand

We’ve been congratulating many minority sisters for making the senate over the past two days like Kamala Jones and Catherine Cortez Masto, but let’s all recognize these sisters on local levels too. Two other names to add to the list of first timers are LaToya Trent and Zena Stephens.
Trent is the newly elected chief of police in Washington, Louisiana. She had been acting as the chief interim for the past two months, but it’s said she already intended to run. Trent has been in with the police department for five years.

Another sister to congratulate is Stephens , who is the first elected Black sheriff in Jefferson County in Texas. Stephens is currently the police chief at Prairie View A&M. Jefferson County includes parts of Beaumont and Port Arthur.

Regardless of what’s going on in the world, Black Girl Magic is still working.
