When one of the greatest living athletes in the world, Serena Williams, announces she will no longer be silent about police brutality, we know there is a real problem at bey, as if the deaths between Alton Sterling and Keith Lamont Scott (now) have not already brought that to light.
In a very touching and thought provoking post today, Williams describes her thoughts during a near encounter with the police while with her nephew and how the thoughts made her realize how serious of an epidemic police brutality truly is.
“I am a total believer that not “everyone” is bad.It is just the ones that are ignorant, afraid, uneducated, and insensitive that is affecting millions and millions of lives,” Williams wrote in her Facebook post. (see above)
Williams reflected on the possibility of her having children of her own and them having to deal with such issues and discrimination. “As Dr. Martin Luther King said “ There comes a time when silence is betrayal”. I Won’t Be Silent”
We look forward to seeing how Williams will use her platform.
