After determining the legal structure of your business, you may need to register your business’s name if you will not be operating under your government name, for example:
Your name: Jane Smith
Your Business Name: House of Treats.
“House of Treats” is what you will be doing business as, also known as your DBA. This name is what you will register with your county clerk or state government, depending on where you are located. Sometimes both are required, sometimes neither.
Before registering follow these tips:
-Check for trademarks. You can use this tool to do so, Trademark search tool http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/gate.exe?f=tess&state=4804:4ueyx.1.1.
If the name is already trademarked you want be able to use but you can always add some type of variation.
-Do a web search to see what domains are available or taken should you decide to go with the name you chose and that is trademark free.
-Check social media to see what handles are available for your chosen name, because you really want to have everything as closely resembling you as possible so others can identify your brand easily.
If everything looks good, you are now ready to move forward and register. The next step is obtaining a tax ID. If you need more assistance with these services, remember we offer such services through Let’s Be Real Society.
