If you are a beef jerky lover, then here’s a Black owned jerky brand you need to know about. Michelle Timberlake is the proud owner of Marjorie’s Beef Jerky, Inc. Named after Timberlake’s mother who passed, the company has produced beef jerky with fine cuts of beef for over twenty years.
In an interview with BlackNews.com Timberlake shared how she was given her vision in 1991, after a bad accident while driving trucks. Timberlake says she worried about how she would take care of her then young son, as she had been truck driver for years and still is now, when she was given the vision by God. Her mother, who she says was her biggest fan, confirmed her upcoming success but forewarned that she would not be around to see it. Her mother passed in 2010 of stage 4 kidney failure and a heart attack.
Timberlake says as they talked that day, she thanked her mother for sacrificing so much of her life for her (Michelle) and her siblings. She also promised her mother that she would put her face on the packaging bag. In the interview, Timberlake says there has been push back about her decision to do so. Others worry that a Black image may lower sales, but this proud entrepreneur does not care and says she even ended a friendship when the friend suggested that her mother’s image be animated on the bag.
