Recently, I got a Bonsai tree for a gift.  While it is so cute and miniature, there are rules to “raising” a Bonsai.  You have to prune it!  My thumb is far from green, but I am so fascinated by what you can learn from this tree, that I am determined to keep it alive.

In simple terms, pruning means to cut off parts that aren’t essential to growth!  We often wonder why we aren’t growing.  Maybe you need to prune some things.  The three main reasons for pruning are if something is dead, to direct growth, and to improve health.

Look at your relationships, not only with others, but with yourself!  Are you growing?  If not, start pruning by asking yourself these question:

Are you carrying dead weight?  Dead weight can be issues we need to deal with, habits we have formed over the years that are self-deprecating and it can also be toxic people.  We often carry dead weight by choice because we are afraid of what people might say.  You know the “oh, you are acting funny” or the “you are brand new” comments you hear.  If you are going to grow, you can’t worry about that, you have more cheerleaders than you may think!

What about directing your growth, are you doing that?  In order to have the life you want, you have to be directed and focused.  If starting a business is part of your growth, what are you doing about that?  Is there a class you can take online?  Look at your resources, can they help direct your growth?

Let’s look at the biggest issue…improving health.  If you don’t realize that pruning is essential for your health, look at your circle.  How many of your friends are depressed, negative, or all around unhealthy?  Believe me, it will hinder your growth!  I have had friends pass away due to stress related health issues.  No warning, no yellow light…just gone!  So if you don’t prune for any other reason, prune because you want to live!

You can survive not pruning.  However, you won’t grow.  In order to grow you must prune.  It allows healthier things to grow, dreams to be accomplished, and life to be lived!  Make this year, the year of “pruning” or as I like to say, the year of the “cut off”.  You don’t have to apologize for wanting to be better and grow!

Remember, your growth is up to you!

Peace & Love
