Wednesday Wonder Woman: Kenya Brown

You are well known in the Baton Rouge community. How did you get your start in the beauty industry? What in particular sparked your interest in real estate?

I was like several others who began at home doing hair and because of the passion and talent, chose to do it professionally.I’ve always loved the architecture of houses any style and age. I also wondered what it would be like to be on the selling side.

Is your track record in real estate thus far typical for beginners? If not, what would you say have been your keys to success?

My track record is not typical for a rookie agent. I’m not at the very top, but far from the bottom. My keys to success are strong will and determination. I was told that I couldn’t do it, and I am determined to prove them wrong. I’m goal oriented and always put my best foot forward.

Do you have 1-2 tips hair care for this spring and summer heat?

Summer and spring weather usually attracts a lot of protective styles such as braids and weaves. They should be professionally done, not too tight and make sure your natural (real) hair is well moisturized and cared for. Don’t neglect your real hair!

What’s one obstacle you’ve overcome in business and how did you do so?

An obstacle in business that I faced was getting colleagues and friends to understand that I’m running a professional business and to respect it as such. It wasn’t hard to overcome. Teach people how to treat you and your business by the way you conduct yourself and run your business– professionally!

How do you balance being a wife, mother, realtor, and hair salon owner and stylist?

I’m able to run two successful businesses by having set hours for both. Keeping a schedule is key!

What are some tips for successfully owning and operating a salon while also being employed or working in other fields?

I’m able to wear many hats by respecting the order of God, family and work. I combine them when possible and delegate responsibility when possible.

What words of inspiration would you care to share with our followers.

My advice is to remain focused and humbled.
