Ava Duvernay To Hire All Female Directors on “Queen Sugar” Project

In a recent interview about her upcoming show, Queen Sugar, Ava Duvernay shared her plans to have an all female editorial director team..During the Sundance Film Festival, Duvernay told ReelBack she plans to include quite a few independent African American female directors as well.

The miniseries will derive from Natalie Baszile’s book, Queen Sugar. Charley Bordelon, a single Black mother, who inherits a sugarcane field in Louisiana from her late father. Charley and her daughter move across country for a fresh start.

Duvernay has been working on the project since 2014 and it is expected to air on the OWN network later this year.
