3 Interesting Things About Nate Parker and “The Birth of a Nation”




Nate Parker’s The Birth of a Nation which tells the tale of Nat Turner, a Black slave who led a slave revolt in Virginia, is set to premiere at the Sundance Festival tomorrow. Meanwhile here are three things we learned from Parker’s interview with The Hollywood Reporter  that might interest you.

  1. Parker informed his agent that he would not be taking anymore acting roles until he played the role of Nat Turner.

  2. Nate Parker grew up less than 100 miles from where Nat Turner lived and fought, but Parker did not learn of Turner until he took an African American studies class in college.

  3. Nate Parker not only wrote, directed, and stars in The Birth of a Nation, but he also used $100,000 of his own money to pay for a production designer and scout locations.
