NEW ORLEANS—NOPD Seventh District Officers quickly apprehended a 13-year-old boy just about five minutes after he robbed a 53-year-old man near the intersection of Bullard Avenue and Hayne Boulevard.

Around 11:22 a.m., the victim said the teen approached him on a bicycle and snatched $30 in cash out of his hand. Afterwards, the suspect fell off the bike in an attempt to flee, after he snatched the victim’s money. The victim said he ran after the suspect, and at that point the suspect produced a pistol and pointed it at the victim and told him to get back. The teen fled on the bike on Hayne Boulevard.

Around 11:26 a.m. Seventh District Officer Stephen Magee was on the way to the robbery scene, when he observed a suspect matching the previously dispatched description of the robber in the area of Lafourche Street and Hayne Boulevard. Officer Magee detained the suspect until detectives arrived. The victim arrived on the   scene a short time later, and positively identified the teen as the person who robbed him.

During the course of the investigation, detectives learned that the weapon the suspect used was a BB gun. Based on the facts and evidence surrounding this investigation, the teen was booked with one count of armed robbery.

Detectives are currently investigating whether the suspect is responsible for similar armed robberies reported in Eastern New Orleans.

The Seventh District Investigative Unit is in charge of the on-going investigation.
