Super Saturday is the biggest shopping day of the Holiday season. It is when last-minute shoppers can purchase Christmas gifts for friends and family (guilty!). Instead of going to crowded malls and department stores, I went to Brooklyn, NY. Brooklyn is quickly becoming the home of hipsters, foodies, and entrepreneurs.
First, I went to The Wright Look Pop-Up shop hosted by WBLS own “Princess of Entertainment”, Madison Jaye. Online boutique owner Tresiana, has an eye for unique and eclectic pieces. The jewelry was big, bold, and beautiful. In conjunction to the Pop-Up Shop, treats were sold by Desserts by Nic. Desserts by Nic sells an array of decorated cupcakes, cookies, and cake pops that her clients indulges in. Madison Jaye of “The Madison Jaye Show” on New York’s WBLS radio station hosted the shopping event. Madison Jaye uses her celebrity status to support small business and provide extended exposure beyond their reach. The ladies helped me choose a beautiful neckpiece for my sister-in-law. I know she will love it! For your own The Wright Look merchandise, visit their website www.itlookswright.com
Afterward, we made our way across the borough to Williamsburg to The Ugly Owl Pop-Up shop at The House of Shag. The Ugly Owl is representative of wisdom and the brand encourages their customers to embrace “their” own ugly. These fashion designers, B. Vann and M. Tapley, spread their message in their original designs. Customers can find African inspired shirts, leggings and jackets that flatter the body of their male and female clients. My photographer, El of El Anderson Photography, bought a beautifully handmade bracelet imported from the continent of Africa. To view their merchandise, visit www.oglyowl.bigcartel.com
At end the day, we participated in the Christmas spirit by giving back. We attended Expecting Relief’s Toys for Tots at Milk River in Downtown Brooklyn. Expecting Relief in collaboration with Jericho Road Inc.; a nonprofit organization that focuses on Domestic Violence, provided a day of fun, food, and presents to 40 less fortunate mothers and their children. The children enjoyed an afternoon of clown performance and face painting. The talented chefs of Milk River catered lunch for the families and snacks were sponsored by UTZ and Beanfield Chips. These sisters give back all year around, but today their focus is on ensuring needy families still enjoy the festiveness of Christmas. Throughout the year, these sisters believe in helping women with children to find resources in order to better their lives. Expecting Relief provides the basic needed essentials such as bottles, diapers, wipes, toiletries for children, new and gently used clothing, care packages and much more. They plan on helping with obtaining furniture in the near future. These basic needed essentials helps the parents prosper and focus on a more comfortable living environment and/or employment.
If you want to give throughout the year go to www.expectingrelief.com , you can provide donations or volunteer your time. Those interested can log onto www.expectingrelief.org and use our contact us forum to reach out and inquire or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
