A Wonder Woman knows she is always setting an example and is not afraid to take risks. Today’s Wonder Woman, Sheena Jones, certainly fits the description. Jones is the owner of Sweet Sensations Candy Creations, the sweetest place in Louisiana, where they take an ordinary candy and turn it into a unique creation. The company caters to all age groups for any type of event from birthday parties to weddings. They take pre-packaged candy and mold it into a unique creation according to the theme and colors of the client’s event. They also do party favors and candy buffet tables, but with their candy buffet tables they like to use candy that people will eat and not the decorative kind of candy.
Jones says, “My inspiration is my kids. I have a 11 year old boy and a 9 year old daughter, and I decided to start Sweet Sensations Candy Creations, LLC to show them that you can combine your skills and your passion to create a business and produce an income. Jones went on to say, “I have always been a person to do things differently and doing this type of business gives me the opportunity to be different.”
However, Jones is not new to this business. She started creating in middle school and would give her creations out as gifts. Over the years, she learned how to mold pre-packaged candy. In 2009, she sought assistance with the Good Work Network to help turn her side hustle into a legitimate business. “They had a Christmas Festival and my worker told me to just go out there and see how everything goes. By the end of the first hour of the festival, I had sold all of my creations and had a list of orders for future events. I ended up making around $2,500 just on Christmas alone. That’s when I knew it was time for me to go into business for myself,” Jones says.
Jones says her family is very supportive of her business venture. Her mother, sister, and aunt help with watching her children while she is out vending. She credits her grandmother with giving her ideas and believes it is grandmother from whom she inherited her creativity. Jones works at a financial loan company full time, but says even her boss is supportive of her business and allows flexibility with her schedule to help out.
“Business is going good right now. I was able to connect with Reuben DeTiege with Small Business NOLA to help brand my business, and he has helped me to expose my business to the city of New Orleans through expos, TV and radio (WBOK 1230AM),” Jones shares excitedly. At the present time, she is expanding her business to offer more services.
We absolutely love the inspirational message Jones, left for our followers, because we could totally relate. “You will know when it’s your time for your business. It will come to a point where you are so determined for your business to be successful that it feels like you are fighting for your last breathe. So keep striving to be successful, your time is right around the corner.”
