Today’s Wonder Woman is Chrystal “CoCo” Erving, owner of the Elite Petite Beautique, founder of the Non Profit Organization P.R.E.T.T.Y Misses (Promoting Respect & Esteem to Today’s Teen Youth), and one half of The Million $ Netwerk.
Irving started Elite Petite Beautique in 2012 by first selling jewelry and handbags to her coworkers and friends. Later she expanded it and began selling clothing, shoes, and accessories. They also offer affordable stylist service packages and have created an empowering line of t-shirts and accessory finds for their QueenLife™ theme. “QueenLife™ was created because we believe that EVERY woman holds a crown. With this line our goal is that every woman knows her worth while living it through her actions, flaws and all!” Irving says.
P.R.E.T.T.Y Misses™ speaks to young girls/women ages 10-20 with the goal to teach positive self esteem and instill that beauty starts within. They have hosted workshops teaching job/resume skills, fun self esteem activities, prom giveaways and more. Their online radio show (P.R.E.T.T.Y Talk™) reached thousands as they invited influential guests on to speak to young girls/women and boys/men on real life topics currently affecting our youth. Their new Season for P.R.E.T.T.Y Talk™ will begin Winter 2014.
“A recent study found that only 2% of women worldwide described themselves as “beautiful”. This is troubling on so many levels, but mostly because the 98% of us who do not recognize our own beauty are teaching young girls this same lesson. As a mother of daughters and as a woman who had trouble seeing her own beauty at times, I felt compelled to work towards changing this statistic,” Irving explains as her reason for starting her nonprofit.
Irving shared that one of her biggest obstacles she’s had to overcome was coping with the tragic lost of her 16 month old son at the hands of her live in boyfriend and then having her other four children removed from her custody following his death. Almost two weeks later, she lost one of her brothers to carbon monoxide poisoning. “That year changed my outlook on what MY purpose in life was. After fighting AND WINNING custody of my children, I made three promises to myself. First I vowed to NEVER fail them in any way again. Second, I would leave a legacy that would out overshadow the “tragedy”. And last, I wanted to help others who may not be able to push forward after such tragedies. It wasn’t immediately that I knew what or how I wanted to help others. It took some self searching & forgiving, but with God’s grace, dedication, and my new found self worth, I was able to overcome the guilt, overcome the ridicule, and overcome so many things life had thrown at me,” Irving says.
Irving left us with these words of wisdom, “I encourage any girl/woman to EMBRACE her inner beauty. This world and life’s lessons can break you down or build you up. Everyday, I want you to look in the mirror, SMILE, and then give yourself 3 compliments. By focusing on the good things you do and the positive aspects of yourself, you will change how you feel about yourself regardless of who is saying “You can’t”, “You’re not good enough”, “You don’t deserve it”, “You’re not pretty enough”, “You’re not skinny enough”- Whatever they are saying! You must believe in YOURSELF. Oddly enough, doing this will impact how your future will turn out. If you start putting out positive, positive will come back to you. These steps will change who you come in contact with, the type of guy you attract, the type of friends you associate with and most definitely the type of person you will become.
