Wednesday Wonder Woman: TeSheka McCray

Tesheka McCray

Everyone thinks they are a photographer now due to all of the picture and selfies craze, but it takes more than that. While many photographers do not pursue proper training, today’s Wonder Woman, TeSheka McCray, owner of Sheka McCray Photography, has extensive training with well known photographers as well as classroom hours with respected programs. Besides skill and experience, McCray describes her key factors for being an ideal photographer as also having the personality and creative drive to practice photography in a pleasing manner.
“Growing up my mom was a huge picture person. Her love for “captured memories” developed into a hobby for me. After going to school for photography to improve my knowledge of it I decided to make it a full time profession, McCray explains.
She has worked with the likes of the world famous, Camel Page, Guinness Book of World Record’s holder, Aevin Dugas, and 225 Magazine’s photographer, Amy Shutts, to name a few. McCray’s work has also been published in Yes! Yes! Magazine out of Atlanta, GA.
Yet McCray states that her biggest obstacle has been trying to get people to understand the difference between custom professional photography versus big box retailers. She might should add versus do it yourself photography to that list, but we asked her advice on how we could improve our selfies to which she replied, “Haha! That’s a good one. I am horrible at selfies so you probably won’t see too many of me. I have spent so much time behind the camera until I’m not good at getting in front of it.” Well we tried…
McCray is in the process of joining Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep, which is an organization that provides custom professional photos of sleeping newborns for free. She also tries to cover two nonprofit events each year. Next year, she will be partnering with a cause to reward one deserving young lady the perfect prom experience.
McCray resides in Donaldsonville, LA with her husband and two children. She left us with these words of inspiration. “Never give up!!!  Never think that you’re not good enough. I’m still pretty new, but for this young girl from a very, very, small South Louisianan town, I have had my pictures featured a few times, and I have had the honor to shoot with some pretty amazing well known people.”
