It’s a great pleasure to feature Ms. TIffany Magee in SwagHer this month. Magee often sends me stories and informs me of interesting events to cover. Upon recent discovery, I realized Magee is a gogetta. Magee is the Director of Financial Aid at Our Lady of the Lake College and State Director of Miss Black Louisiana USA, an affiliate of Miss Black USA.
Magee was born in New Orleans and raised in Kenner, LA. She attended Southern University at New Orleans where she received a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. At the present time she is pursuing a Master’s degree in Higher Education.
When asked what made her pursue this career, Magee explained, “I actually felt teaching mathematics was my calling and my ticket into heaven, but later found that not to be true. One day, while doing my Sunday morning ritual, I saw an ad in the newspaper, applied, and found that my calling is higher education management.” As the Director of Financial Aid, Magee’s primary role is to provide equitable resources that will allow students to meet their higher educational goals while providing financial literacy.
Similar in the business of helping others, as the State Director of Miss Black Louisiana USA, Magee’s mission is to provide educational opportunities via scholarship and financial literacy to outstanding young women of color and to develop the “whole woman mind, body, and spirit” while serving the communities within the state of Louisiana.
True to her words, the present Miss Black Louisiana, Nakina Eugene is very active in the community. She was member of the Krewe of Water Ball, and a speaker at The Tori Turner Dream Big Concert and The Bayou Soul Writers and Readers Conference just to name a few events.
Magee says she took an interest in the Miss USA pageants while listening to the Tom Joyner show and realizing they did not have an entity in Louisiana. I told you all that this chic is well informed, right?
“Miss Black Louisiana USA is my hobby! It’s an organization that I started with my vision and passion. It’s not just a pageant, but the journey to a pageant,” Magee says.
In her free time, Magee enjoys being with her three children, 18, 9, and 8 and listening to R&B.
When asked the famous Gogetta question of how does she balance all the different roles she plays, Magee responded, “I’m able to balance all of my many roles because I thoroughly enjoy what I do! I enjoy helping students obtain their post-secondary goals, and girls and women receive the accolades and exposure they need to reach their goals. And I can’t forget about my Google calendar.”
In the future Magee plans to continue to grow Miss Black Louisiana USA into a premiere pageant for African-American young women and girls. She also plans to obtain her Master’s Degree in Higher Education from Nicholls State University in 2012, and pursuing her ultimate goal of becoming vice president of enrollment management at a secondary institution.
We at SwagHer Magazine wish Tiffany the best of luck and look forward to working with her again in the future.
